Warped Reality

My youngest son plays lacrosse--a rough sport, but he loves it and his coach is big on good sportsmanship. Yesterday, they played a team that is notorious for playing a questionable game.

In fact, last year, his team played them late in the season and coaches from other towns in the state had called the coach, telling him what to expect.

This year, I was watching the game and my son happened to be playing right in front of where I was sitting. Horrified, I watched a kid from the other team punch him in the back of the head well after a play was over. He actually wound up and punched him in the back of the head, just below where the helmet stopped. I was aghast.

So, after the game, as we were walking to the parking lot, I was venting to my husband about the incident (but fortunately just sticking to the facts--no opinions about the kid's character or his coach or parents--although I did think those!)

Much to my chagrin, the kid's mother was walking behind us and overheard me. She was pissed...at me, not her son. And as she walked away? She was smiling.

Nice.
